Uma Narayanan

Uma Narayanan is the co-translator of Lamps in the Whirlpool, her twelfth oeuvre in a varied collection of published works ranging from fictional to historical. She is passionate about bringing stories that engage her with new readers, and as a bilingual native of Chennai, Tamil to English translation came naturally to her. She has since expanded her repertoire to include French to English translation, after more than a decade as a librarian at the Alliance Française de Madras. Today, she balances translation part-time with her dedication to child welfare as the founder of SOS Children's Villages India, Chennai. During her free time, you can find her engrossed in murder mystery programmes, discussing current literature with her book club, and choosing the next destination to cross off her travel bucket list.

Lakshmi Kannan

Lakshmi Kannan is a bilingual writer. She uses the pen-name 'Kaaveri' for her writings in Tamil. Her twenty-seven books in English and Tamil till date include poems, novels, short stories and translations. Her poems have been published in Wasafiri: International Contemporary Writing; Encounter (UK & USA); The Contemporary Review (Sussex, UK); Ariel: A Review of Contemporary English Literature, Calgary, Canada; The Helix: Literary & Art Magazine, Canberra, Australia; New Letters (Kansas City, USA); Chandrabhaga (Cuttack), Indian Literature (Sahitya Akademi), Kavya Bharati (Madurai), The Little Magazine (New Delhi), Muse India and in others.

Her recent publications in English include Wooden Cow (2021), her translation of the iconic Tamil writer T. Janakiraman's novel Marappasu for his centenary celebrations, Sipping the Jasmine Moon, poems (2019), The Glass Bead Curtain, novel (2020, c 2016), Genesis: Select Stories (2014) and Nandanvan & Other Stories (2011). In Tamil, her titles are Mutthukkal Patthu, Ten Best Stories (2015), Aathukku Poganum, novel (2011) and Kaaveri Kathaigal, Collected stories of 'Kaaveri', Vol 1 & 2 (2007).

Kakoli G, the co-founder of a speciality tea venture, Teamonk, is an ardent tea enthusiast. Having travelled to far flung tea plantations across the country , she certainly has an edge when it comes to knowing her brew. She likes to pen her thoughts on anything that catches her fancy. Be it tea, travel or tales from far-flung shores. A kaleidoscope of memories and learnings gleaned from her interactions with a large spectrum of society have found expression in her writings.
